Description
IS 963 Round Bars
IS 963 Round Bars Indian Standard (IS) Specification refers to Chrome Molybdenum Steel Bars and Rods for Aircraft Purposes / Aerospace Purpose.
IS 963 Round Bars is a Low alloy Steel containing Chromium Molybdenum as strengthening agents. It is supplied as round bar
commonly as Rolled Condition. With a lower carbon content range it has excellent weldability and machinability characteristics.
This Chromium Molybdenum Alloy is one of the most widely used aircraft steels because of its combination of weldability, ease of fabrication and mild hardenability. In relatively thin sections it will respond to heat treatment to high strength levels and yet in the normalised condition it has adequate strength for many applications. When resistance to wear and abrasion is required, it may be nitrided.
Alloy Steel IS 963, also referred to as Chromoly Steel or chromium and molybdenum alloy steel. Known for its responsiveness to mechanical and heat treatments, IS 963 is weldable by most commercially popular methods. Cold working is possible and forming often takes place in the annealed condition. It is important to note that the machining of IS 963 is difficult when the hardness of the alloy increases. IS 963 is popular in a number of critical industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, and Oil and Gas.
