Description
Alloy 188 Round Bars / AMS 5772 / UNS R30188 / 2.4683
Alloy 188 Round Bars is a Cobalt Nickel Chromium Tungsten SuperAlloy also known as AMS 5772, UNS 2.4683, R30188, HAYNES 188, UDIMET 188, AMS 5608.
Alloy 188 is a Cobalt Nickel Chromium Tungsten alloy that combines excellent high-temperature strength with very good resistance to oxidizing environments up to 2000°F (1095°C) for prolonged exposures, and excellent resistance to sulfate deposit hot corrosion. It is readily fabricated and formed by conventional techniques, and has been used for cast component. Other attractive features include excellent resistance to molten chloride salts, and good resistance to gaseous sulfidation.
Alloy 188 has good forming characteristics and is capable of being forged, hot worked or cold worked, althoug it does work-harden very rapidly so frequent intermediate annealing treatments are recommend for complex forming operations. Alloy 188 is supplied solution heat treated at 2150°F and rapid air or water quenched to attain optimum properties. A combination of good fabricability and weldability makes Alloy 188 suitable for a wide number of applications, particularly in gas turbine components such as combustors, flame holders, liners and tranistion ducts.
This alloy performs well in continuous high temperature service and has excellent oxidation, spalling and corrosion resistance, achieved through the addition of chromium in combination with a minute amount of lanthanum. The lanthanum addition produces a tenacious, protective oxide scale at high temperatures. This alloy also maintains its ductility at cryogenic temperatures, but strength levels are increased substantially.
