Description
Aluminium 7050 T7451 Plate / AMS 4050 Plates
Aluminium 7050 T7451 Plate refers to a high-strength aluminum alloy (7050) in a specific temper (T7451) known for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and toughness, primarily used in demanding aerospace applications like aircraft fuselages, wings, and structural components, even in thicker sections. It offers better stress corrosion cracking resistance than older alloys like 7075 and is prized for structural integrity in harsh environments.
Alloy 7050 aluminum plates are the principal choice for aerospace applications, especially in the 3-6 inch thickness range. It exhibits better toughness/corrosion resistance characteristics than the older, more established alloy 7075. Since it is less quench sensitive than most other aerospace alloys, this alloy maintains its strength properties in thicker sections while retaining good stress corrosion cracking resistance and fracture toughness levels. AMS 4050 is commonly associated with 7050, though various manufacturers require their own specifications.
Aluminium alloy 7050 is an Aerospace Grade of aluminium combining high strength, stress corrosion cracking resistance and toughness. It is particularly suited for heavy plate applications (3″ to 6″ thick) due to it’s lower quench sensitivity and retention of strength in thicker sections. Aluminium 7050 therefore is the premium choice aerospace aluminium for applications such as fuselage frames, bulkheads and wing skins.
Aluminium Alloy 7050 plate is available in two tempers. T7651 (AMS 4201) combines the highest strength with good exfoliation corrosion resistance and average SCC resistance. T7451 (AMS 4050) provides better SCC resistance and excellent exfoliation resistance at slightly lower strength levels. Aircraft Materials can also supply 7050 in round bar with temper T74511 (AMS 4342).

Applications of 7050 Plates:
• Aerospace: Aircraft fuselages, wing sections, bulkheads.
• Automotive: Piping systems, air/water flow systems.
• Industrial: Transporting materials (oil, gas, chemicals), construction.
• Aerospace structures
• Wing skins
• Commercial & military aircraft applications
• Bulkheads
• Fuselage frames
Temper T7451:
Indicates specific heat treatment (solution heat-treated and over-aged) to achieve high strength and corrosion resistance.
Key Characteristics:
• High Strength: Stronger than many other aluminum alloys, especially in thick plates.
• Corrosion Resistance: Superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking and exfoliation.
• Toughness: Good fracture toughness, suitable for thick sections due to low quench sensitivity.
• Machinability: Good machinability despite its strength, allowing for intricate parts.
